Paul Lampert

After graduating from the National Theatre School of Canada in 1982, Paul Lampert freelanced as an actor and director, eventually taking on the position of Associate Director for Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon.Between 1987 and 1989 Paul was based in Europe and worked with such varied companies as Poland's Teatr BLIK and the International Theatre in Vienna, Austria. After returning to Canada in 1989, Paul worked extensively as a director, actor and teacher, including six seasons as Assistant Artistic Director at the renowned Shaw Festival where he directed ten productions and acted in several others. His own adaptation of The Snob was commissioned by the Dallas Theatre Center in 1996. He also directed for three seasons with Blyth Festival. Other Canadian directing credits include Tarragon Theatre, Buddies in Bad Times, Persephone Theatre, Theatre Tattoo, Globe Theatre, the Great Canadian Theatre Company, Actors Repertory Company, Theatre Aquarius, the National Theatre School of Canada, University of Alberta, and York University. He returned to Europe to direct the national premiere of Oleanna, by David Mamet, for the famous Stary Theatre in Kraków, Poland; his production of Raised in Captivity toured to Berlin, Germany and he directed on two separate occasions for the distinguished E15 Acting School in London, England. He formed Theatre PANIK with Niki Landau in 2004, directed the award-winning Territories and the developmental workshop of The Finger in February, 2007. Paul also has a distinguished career as theatre pedagogue. Internationally, he taught mask and movement theatre to professional artists at the Symposium for Performing Arts in Oberwil, Switzerland; at Theatre BLIK's school in Poland; at St. Eriks in Stockholm, Sweden; at E15 Acting School in England, and in Cuba for Tetro Escambray. His Canadian teaching credits include the National Theatre School of Canada, York University, University of Alberta, University of Windsor, University of Toronto, George Brown College, Sheridan College and the Saskatchewan Provincial School for the Deaf. Paul is the past Artistic Director of the George Brown Theatre School in Toronto and currently teaches acting and directing at York University. He also teaches acting at the newly formed Professional Actors Lab, and taught mask to Palestinian and Israeli teenagers as part of Peace Camp Canada in Ottawa in 2004.
